USAID Provides Earthquake Relief to China
The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), have provided $500,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross for the procurement and delivery of emergency relief commodities, as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck China. U.S. Ambassador Clark Randt declared a disaster due to the impact of the earthquake. |

USAID Administrator Delivers Aid to Burma and Announces an Additional $13 Million in Humanitarian Assistance
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator and Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance Henrietta Fore and Admiral Timothy Keating, Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command have just returned from the first U.S. humanitarian assistance flight into Burma. This flight delivered 8,300 bottles of water, 1,350 blankets, and 10,800 insecticide-treated bed nets to protect against malaria. These relief supplies will be able to benefit as many as 30,000 people. Two additional humanitarian assistance flights are planned for Tuesday. |

USAID Administrator Visits Southeast Asia to Support Relief Efforts in Burma
U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Henrietta Fore is traveling to the cyclone-stricken region of Southeast Asia in her capacity as the President's Special Coordinator for International Disaster Assistance. Her visit shows the deep commitment of the American people to support the relief efforts in Burma. She will review USAID relief operations within the region and encourage more access for the international relief community to provide critical life saving humanitarian supplies and support. |

USAID Partners with American Red Cross to Help the Burmese People
The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide $1 million of the initial $3.25 million in emergency assistance for Burma through the American Red Cross. This assistance will help provide for ongoing community assessments, mobilization and distribution of relief supplies from pre-positioned Red Cross stockpiles, follow-up monitoring and coordination, and the local procurement, transport, and emergency storage of temporary shelter materials. |

USAID Provides Additional $3 Million in Assistance to the Burmese People in Cyclone Aftermath
The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), are providing an additional $3 million dollars in initial assistance to help meet the most urgent needs of the Burmese people in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis. The White House announced this additional funding at a press briefing today. This brings the total USAID assistance to $3.25 million to date, which will be allocated by the USAID Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) that is currently pre-positioned in Bangkok awaiting permission to enter Burma. |

USAID Assists Burmese People in Cyclone Aftermath
The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), are providing an initial $250,000 for emergency relief assistance to help those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Nargis. USAID has also pre-positioned emergency response experts nearby and is prepared to deploy a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to assist the people of Burma. |
